Is your French rusty?
Come focus on your pronunciation and phonetics at a fun workshop!

Since the French and English sound systems are so different, this is a huge hurdle that native English speakers often struggle with. Let's focus on pronunciation tonight - you'll receive a phonetics handout, we'll practice together, and we'll play some fun games too where we'll get to throw stuff, eat stuff, and maybe even drink a little vin. RSVP

Goals for this workshop:

• To learn French phonetics (like what vowel combinations make the "O" sound?)
  
• To focus on sounds that are phonemes in French but not in English (like "ou" and "u")
  
• To focus on those pesky nasals
  
• To improve our speed at making these weird noises (so our speech isn't full of awkward pauses)
  

Who should come:

• People who want to brush up on their French language skills
  
• Adventurous people who are starting from scratch
  
• People who plan to travel to French-speaking countries
  
• J'aimerais avoir au moins un francophone pour nous aider
  

Logistics:

• In the future, to RSVP yes, you'll need to make a payment of $2. If you come to the meeting I will give you your $2 back! If you cancel at least 2 days in advance, you will be refunded via PayPal. As a group, we decided on this method to ensure that people who RSVP yes would be more likely to come and not cancel at the last moment. (This is not a money making scheme!)
  
• The meeting location is TBA but it will be somewhere in downtown Livermore for sure. We will either have it at a coffee shop, my house, or the Livermore library.
