London French Meetup
The London French Meetup is a well established and friendly club. Our aim is to bring together francophiles and francophones who share an interest in the French language and culture. We guarantee you will enjoy the LFM whether your French, English or any other nationality. Our wide range of activities will give you the opportunity to speak in French whilst having a good time, meet new interesting people and expand your social life. We welcome all levels of French from beginners to native speakers.
Events
We have two official, fixed Meetups per month on Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus a number of 'Meetup Extra' events. The official Meetups exist to get together and speak French very informally and meet other francophiles in a bar/pub setting. The Meetup Extras are one-off or less frequent events, such as:
- meals in French restaurants around London
- French concerts
- French theatre visits
- walks in the countryside
- Jazz Club NEW!
We also have offshoots of LFM such as:
- Cineclub for French film lovers
- Quiz nights in French about all things French (and a few questions about Great Britain).
- Topic Meeting where a small group is gathered according the same interest: Living in France... NEW!
Membership
Our group has been growing much stronger over autumn/winter 2008, with attendances going up from about 10 to well over 60. We've outgrown one venue and switched to two monthly Meetups to accommodate demand. Memberhip is growing all the time.
We are now globally the 3rd biggest French Language Group on Meetup.com. LFM is for members of ALL abilities. We do have many French natives and advanced speakers, but equally many beginners. We always have a beginner corner where they can practice according to there own level. If you are wondering about coming along to one of our events - please do give us a try!
**New members can come to events twice for free** before being asked to buy a membership.
Upon arrival, I or another LFM member will be there to greet you. You'll be asked to sign in and will be given a name badge, to ease introductions (and so you won't need to remember so many new names yourself!). The displayed member feedback and comments speak for themselves...
Why do we have a membership fee?
The membership fee was brought in October 2005. A members poll was held and a majority voted in favour of an annual £10 membership fee. A very small price to pay for a year packed with great events with great people. With such a large membership the club cannot run on enthusiasm alone. The money given pays for meetup.com website charges, any room hire, organiser admin costs, but most importantly goes in to a
budget for large scale events. We are already planning our first large scale event which would not be possible without the advance contributions from members.
Organisation
Laurent & Tristan did a great job of running the club and boosting memberships from Oct 2006 until Nov 2008 and they have now handed the organisation over to me. I work wholly on a voluntary, part-time basis. I am always looking for people to help, either by sparing time (this could be your chance to gain experience in events!) or by contributing ideas - so please do email with your comments, questions or suggestions.
Looking forward to seeing you at an LFM event soon!
